8,000 cycling tourists are ready for the Mallorca 312 challenge

  • Everything is ready to enjoy a day of pure cycling passing through the most emblematic peaks of the Serra de Tramuntana and the northern area of Mallorca.

Mallorca, April 29, 2022. Less than 24 hours left for the start of the twelfth edition of the Mallorca 312 edition at 6:30 a.m. The official presentation held at the Expo Mallorca with the presence of bib number 312, Ivan Basso, the CEO of the Mallorca 312, Xisco Lliteras, the mayor of Muro, Miquel Porquer, the CEO of Supersapiens, Phil Sutherland, the Managing Director of the Agencia Estrategia Turística de les Illes Balears, Francesc Mateu and ministers Andreu Serra (Minister of Transition, Tourism and Sports), Iván Sevillano (Minister of Mobility and Infrastructure) and Fina Santiago (Minister of Social Affairs and Sports of the Balearic Government).

An elect group of former professional cyclists have attended the event today along with the authorities that will be in attendance tomorrow along with 8,000 participants. Alberto Contador, Miguel Indurain, Tony Rominger, Joseba Beloki, Miquel Alzamora, Toni Tauler and Max Hürzeler have been alongside Ivan Basso.

Alberto Contador has presented his colleague Ivan Basso with the bib number 312 who has said that; “it is a real privilege to be honored because, although I have participated in past races, when Xisco called me, I was very excited” and he added that his strategy for tomorrow; “is to be quite conservative because the Mallorca 312 is a very long race and one that must begin with legs, the heart and lastly with your head”.

During the presentation, Xisco Lliteras, CEO of the Mallorca 312, has wished all the participants a great day of cycling; “because everyone deserves it after everything we have all gone through these years with the health emergency”. Thanks, has also gone to authorities and sponsors who; “have helped the project and thanks to them, we can enliven this start of the season in the island of Mallorca”.

On his behalf, the Mayor of Muro, Miquel Porquer has also thanked all the towns the Mallorca 312 passes through because, “we know this is a huge endeavor and without their help, this would not be possible.

Three routes: 312, 225 and 167 kilometers

Although all the cyclists begin the race at the same time, the arrival is staggered depending on the distance they have chosen. The first to finish the 167-kilometer race is expected to arrive around 11:00 a.m. and the first cyclists to finish the 225-kilometer distance should arrive by 1:00 p.m. The fastest to finish the 312-kilometer race is expected to arrive at Playa de Muro at around 3:15 p.m.

Cyclist Fair

While cyclists pedal around the island, the Mallorca 312 Expo opens its doors from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Those in attendance can also enjoy the performance of the musical group Els Fun Kiss at 6:00 p.m.
